FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What genres do you specialize in?

I'm obsessed with romance and fantasy—especially monster, fairy, and dragon romances, high fantasy epics, and romantasy hybrids. Think Fourth Wing, Crescent City, anything with intricate magic systems, fae courts, or swoon-worthy shifters. I also love erotica and sci-fi that leans into worldbuilding. If your manuscript has epic quests, heart-fluttering tension, or both, we're a perfect match. Not my vibe? Literary fiction, non-fiction, or children's books—I'll happily point you toward editors who specialize in those areas.

What's the difference between copyediting, proofreading, and the package deal?

Copyediting is the deep polish: I tighten prose, fix consistency (magic systems, character arcs, timelines), grammar, and flow while keeping your voice intact. Proofreading is the final sweep—catching typos, punctuation slips, and formatting quirks after all other edits are done. My package deal bundles both at 22% off ($0.0195/word vs. $0.025/word separately), with a coordinated timeline so you don't have to juggle two different editors.

Do I need developmental and line editing done first?

Yes, absolutely. Your manuscript should be past the big-picture stuff (plot holes, character development, pacing issues) and heavy line edits before we work together. I'm here for that final layer of polish, not structural overhauls. If you're not quite there yet, I can point you toward resources or other editors who specialize in those earlier stages.

What are your minimum word counts and why?

Copyediting: 30k words minimum ($450 at $0.015/word) Proofreading: 30k words minimum ($300 at $0.01/word) Package Deal: 40k words minimum ($780 at $0.0195/word)

The minimums ensure we're both getting value from the service and timeline. Shorter pieces don't need the same depth of consistency checks that make my editing shine, and the package deal is designed for full novels where the savings really add up.

How long does each service take?

Copyediting: Minimum 2 weeks, depending on word count and complexity Proofreading: 1-2 weeks minimum Package Deal: Copyediting (2+ weeks) → 3-week revision window → Proofreading (1-2 weeks) = typically 6-8 weeks total

I'll give you a firm timeline after reviewing your manuscript. Complex fantasy worldbuilding or intricate magic systems might need extra time—I'd rather do it right than rush your story.

What's this optional second pass about?

Sometimes after revisions, you want another thorough look—especially if you've made big changes or added new scenes. It's available at 60% of the original price for standalone services, or 80% for the package deal (yep, discount on a discount). Just let me know upfront so we can plan accordingly.

How does payment work?

Copyediting & Proofreading (standalone):

  • 40% deposit to book your spot

  • 30% at midpoint

  • 30% on delivery

Package Deal:

  • 35% deposit to book your spot

  • 25% before copyediting delivery (with midpoint updates)

  • 25% before proofreading starts

  • 15% before final delivery

Important: If you bail on the proofreading portion of the package, I'll adjust pricing to standalone copyediting rates. The discount only applies when you complete the full package.

What file formats do you work with?

.docx files only—Microsoft Word format so I can use tracked changes properly. When you submit, include your synopsis, word count, first chapter, and expectations. I'll get back to you within a week with a scope sheet and 2-page sample edit so you can see my style before we dive in.

Do you handle explicit content or sensitive themes?

Absolutely, as long as it's consensual (Don’t worry. I understand nuance) and fits my genre wheelhouse. I edit erotica regularly and I'm not here to judge your spice level or kinks. We can discuss any boundaries in our contract if needed, but generally, I'm focused on polishing your prose, not policing your content. I also work with touchy subjects such as abuse, addiction, mental illness, etc. The one genre I am not comfortable editing right now is dark romance—and I mean the stalker serial killer ones. Dark fantasy is A-Okay! No judgement for those who love the genre. It’s my guilty pleasure too.

What if we're not a good fit or I'm unhappy with the work?

The upfront sample edit is designed to catch style mismatches early. I also check in during the process and encourage communication if something feels off. Deposits are non-refundable (they cover my time and hold your spot), but I'm committed to making revisions within the agreed scope to get your manuscript where it needs to be.

Can you work with series or check continuity across multiple books?

Yes! This is one of my favorite parts—keeping track of character details, magic system rules, world-building elements, and timelines across a series. I create detailed style sheets that carry forward, making future books much smoother. Just mention if it's part of a series when you submit.

Are you taking new clients right now?

I'm currently booking 1-3 weeks out for most projects. Timeline depends on word count, editing depth, and my current queue. After you submit your materials, I'll let you know exactly when I can start and deliver your completed edit.

How many clients do you take at a time?

As of right now, I am accepting 1 to 2 clients every 2 weeks. Depends on word count, editing depth of projects.
